Grimalkin Books is a bit of an adventure. We’ve all been writing for quite some time and know very well that it’s no good going to your publisher, when they think you write Crime novels or Young Adult and asking them if they’d publish a selection of ghost stories…or poems…or a novel that isn’t anything like your normal output. The reaction would at best be puzzlement and at worst a suggestion that you might be better off elsewhere. But writers are curious beasts and stories are a bit like stray cats. When one starts to scratch on the door of your brain, wanting to be let in, sooner or later you get a cat flap installed.
Grimalkin Books started as a response to this dilemma. The one thing we all have in common is that when not writing our ‘usual’ stuff, we like experimenting with the weird and the wonderful.
We managed to produce an anthology and a novel in our first year – and then managed not to do anything for almost a year after that…but we’ve come back with big plans! Two more anthologies in the works and more novels after that.
So, will we be accepting submissions?
No. At least not yet. While it’s just us it doesn’t matter if we get things wrong. We may be experienced writers but this publishing thing is new to us and there are skills to be learnt before we’d feel comfortable involving other writers.
In the meantime we plan on having some fun and seeing where Grimalkin cat leads us.
And Grimalkin?
Well, Grimalkin is a grey cat. In some cultures, Grimalkin is a psychopomp; it seemed kind of appropriate.
